Checklist for Packing Supplies in Kemptville: Your Moving Essentials
It's easier to get moving when you have all of your packing supplies in Kemptville ready to go. Here's your checklist for reference.
In fact, one recent survey revealed that almost 40% of people say moving is worse than going through a bad breakup. These people hate everything from packing for a move to paying moving-related expenses.
It would be nearly impossible for you to eliminate all the stress associated with moving. But you can reduce your stress levels dramatically by investing in the best packing supplies in Kemptville.
When you have the right moving supplies on hand, it’ll make the entire moving process go smoother. It’ll also equip you with the right packing material so that you don’t break a single fragile item and stress out about it.
Of all the different packing supplies in Kemptville that you’re going to need to move, moving boxes are probably the most important. It would be well worth purchasing high-quality moving boxes that can keep your personal possession 100% safe while you move.
Moving boxes will be available in a bunch of different sizes. Some of the most common moving box sizes are:
- 16 x 10 x 10
- 18 x 14 x 12
- 20 x 20 x 15
You’re free to buy whichever size moving boxes you want, but you should try to get a good mix of them. You’ll typically want to pack the smaller boxes with heavier items like books, plates, etc., and the larger ones with lighter items like pillows, comforters, etc. It’ll make it easier to manage these moving boxes once they’re all filled up and ready to go.
If you’re filling up a moving box with, say, the aforementioned pillows and comforters, you obviously won’t need to worry about putting any bubble wrap into it. These items aren’t going to get damaged if a moving box with them in it gets dropped.
There are, however, some boxes that will contain fragile items like the plates we talked about a moment ago. You’ll want to stick either packing paper or, better yet, bubble wrap in them to ensure that they don’t break at any point during your move.
It never hurts to have a big roll of bubble wrap around when you’re moving. You never know when you’ll need to use some of it to wrap up fragile items that are being put into a moving box.
When you buy moving boxes for a move, they’re almost always going to be completely flat. This makes it easier for you to purchase them and get them home.
But once you have them in your house, you’re going to want to start folding them so that you can put them together. You’ll also want to have some heavy-duty packing tape on hand so that you can seal them up tight once you have them filled.
You shouldn’t ever skimp and go with low-quality packing tape that might not stick to your moving boxes tightly. It could lead to the tape coming off while you’re moving and your moving boxes falling apart on you.
Labelling your moving boxes after you’re done packing them up is of the utmost importance. The last thing you want to do is move a bunch of moving boxes into your new house and be left to wonder what’s inside of them.
You don’t necessarily need to write down everything that’s inside your boxes. But you should, at the very least, write which room they will need to go in. To do this, you will need to have markers that will allow you to write on cardboard moving boxes.
It’ll only take you a few seconds to write which room a moving box belongs in before you move along to the next box. But it’ll make such a big difference later on when you get to your new home and begin the process of unpacking.
As you’re packing up all of the things that you have in your home, you’re going to need to have something that you can use to cut everything from boxes to tape to bubble wrap. Box cutters would probably be your best bet.
As long as you have some box cutters around, you will be able to cut almost anything you want. You’ll also find that box cutters will come in handy when it’s time to unpack. Regular scissors might struggle to cut through the packing tape you put on moving boxes, but box cutters will cut right through it.
While you’re in the process of packing up your house, you should try to throw out as much stuff as you can. The more you’re able to throw out, the easier it’ll be to move from point A to point B.
For this reason, you should always have a box of large trash bags around. They’ll make it so easy for you to discard things that you don’t want to bring to your new home.
You can also use trash bags for more than just throwing out stuff you don’t need anymore. You might be able to use them for packing purposes. If you’re trying to find something to use to pack up a bunch of stuffed animals, trash bags should do the trick.
Just make sure that you don’t accidentally throw out any of the things that you stick into trash bags. You should clearly label them so that they don’t get mixed up with the trash bags you’ll be throwing out.
There will obviously be a lot of items that you aren’t going to be able to stick into moving boxes when you move. All of your furniture, for example, will have to be moved as-is.
But you can provide your furniture with all the protection it’ll need by wrapping it up with shrink wrap. It should be enough to stop your furniture from getting scratched while you move it.
As an added bonus, shrink wrap can also be used to stop the drawers in dressers, side tables, etc. from opening up while you’re moving them. They’ll stay shut tight when they have shrink wrap over them.
Moving a mattress can be very tricky. You don’t ever want to let it come into contact with anything that could leave it dirty and/or wet. But that might be exactly what happens if you don’t put a mattress into anything prior to moving it.
Fortunately, there are mattress bags that you can buy for the mattresses in your home. You can protect your mattresses from dirt, moisture, insects, etc. with these mattress bags. They’ll prove to be worthwhile investments when you’re moving.
Ideally, you should try to hire a residential moving company to help you move and leave most of the heavy lifting to them. But you might still want to purchase a hand truck that you can use to move heavy boxes around in your house after you’re done packing them.
You don’t want to try lifting these boxes on your home and throw your back out at any point. That’s going to make your move even harder than it has to be.
Hand trucks are relatively inexpensive, and you’ll be able to use them both while you’re moving and in the future when you need to move things around inside your new house.
As we just mentioned, you should attempt to bring a moving company on board for your moving day. They’ll make your move so much less stressful by doing a lot of the hard work associated with moving.
There are more than 2,500 moving companies operating throughout Canada as of 2022. You should search for an experienced moving company with a great reputation to help you with your move. You’ll be glad you did when you see how much they’re able to help you.
